Reducing Demand for Unhealthy Food

Globally there has been an influx of ultra-processed products, which have negatively impacted diets and increased the prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), like cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, among others. To shift these alarming trends, GHAI works with civil society organizations to push for mandatory policies that reduce the consumption of ultra-processed food and beverages.

We provide Civil Registration, Vital Statistics and Identity Management (CRVSID) legal reviews and budget advocacy support to improve public health data so that governments are equipped with the tools and systems to collect and use data to prioritize health challenges, develop policies, deploy resources and measure access.

Vested commercial interests actively block or undermine healthy food policies. GHAI protects food policies by holding the ultra-processed products industry accountable for the health and environmental damage they cause.

Maternal and Reproductive Health

We helped to prevent maternal mortality and expand reproductive health access by working with implementing partners on the ground to use advocacy to secure the provision and budgeting of these services by local and national governments in Tanzania.
