GHAI Year in Review: Highlights from 2022
The Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) is proud to support local partners, in more than 40 countries, advocating for policy change on multiple critical public health issues that improve health and save lives. Here are some of the accomplishments over the past twelve months.
Our team and advocates successfully advocated for a new Bangladesh government financial commitment for a national project which will reduce drowning deaths in children; taxes on sugary-sweet beverages in Barbados, the inclusion of sweetened beverage tax and ultra-processed food tax in Colombia’s national reform, and front of package labeling in Argentina and Brazil and nutrition labeling in Vietnam; passage of the Mainstream Addiction Treatment Act (MAT) through the U.S. House of Representatives and the passage of laws in Colombia, Ecuador and Mexico and to reduce the high numbers of road traffic deaths and create safer roads for everyone.
GHAI has also held events and developed new resources, including the Future of Public Health Advocacy event alongside the UN General Assembly, created new chapters on the Inclusion of Women and Children and Equal Access for LGBTI Individuals for inclusion in our Civil Registration, Vital Statistics, and ID Management (CRVSID) Legal and Regulatory Review Toolkit; released an industry report Marketing Exposed: A Global Public Health Threat for Food Policy; expanded its Data for Health program to include budget advocacy and sustainability, and launched the Budget Advocacy Toolkit for Epidemic Preparedness, a step-by-step learning resource to guide the planning and implementation of an advocacy campaign for epidemic preparedness financing.
These are only a few accomplishments from 2022. Please check out our featured stories for many more stories from this past year.
