We advance policy and systems change by mobilizing civil society movements and strengthening the capacity of our local partners to advocate for better health outcomes. To date, GHAI has supported civil society advocates to pass public health policies in more than 32 countries covering 4 billion people.

Our team has supported over 260 organizations in more than 60 countries across diverse political contexts to plan and execute winning advocacy campaigns on a range of public health issues. Our success passing policies is built on the experience and expertise we’ve honed together with our partners. We employ a cross-disciplinary approach that includes political mapping, legal and litigation strategy, strategic planning, communications and media advocacy, coalition building and grassroots mobilization and more.

From Budget Cut to Budget Increase: Building Political Will for Civil Registration in Zambia

In Zambia, the national government increased funding for its civil registration services by 67%, following advocacy by the Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) and our civil society organization (CSO) partner Maternal Health Action Zambia (MHAZ). Prior to civil society engagement, the initial budget proposal had called for a funding cut. 

This means more births and deaths will be registered, more Zambians will be able to enjoy their civil rights and access social services and the country will have a more secure legal identity system.

How GHAI Helped Make Addiction Treatment More Accessible

The Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment Act (MAT Act) was signed into law in the final days of December 2022, eliminating a key barrier to access of a lifesaving medication for the more than 100,000 people dying of overdose per year.

Saving Lives Through Innovation: Survival Swimming and Water Safety Program Transforms Child Safety in Vietnam

Between 2018 and 2025, the Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) with support from Bloomberg Philanthropies, partnered with the Government of Vietnam to implement a World Health Organization (WHO)-recommended survival swimming program that fundamentally transformed national child safety and reduced overall child drowning.
