Kate Konopka, Legal Director, oversees GHAI’s legal policy and litigation work. Kate has over two decades of litigation experience. Most recently, she served as Deputy Attorney General (DAG) for the District of Columbia, where she oversaw the entirety of the District’s affirmative civil litigation, including in the areas of consumer protection, antitrust, civil rights, nonprofit, and federal overreach. In this capacity, she brought cases against large multi-national companies, including Amazon, Google, Meta, Marriott, Beech-Nut, Doordash, and Instacart for illegal business practices and supported legislative initiatives, including the overhaul of the District’s consumer protection, nonprofit, and antitrust acts. Prior to serving as DAG, Kate served as a senior litigator for the United States Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division and Consumer Protection Branch, as Counsel for two prominent plaintiff-side class action law firms, and as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia. Kate has first chaired over 40 trials and led hundreds of investigations both in the United States and abroad. She also has regularly spoken at conferences and on panels, particularly on issues of antitrust, consumer protection, and nonprofit enforcement.
