Episode 11: “Recovery Begins with Belonging” Featuring Amanda Hall

"Those women told me enough times that I was worthy until one day I believed them."

Amanda Hall grew up in rural Appalachia, faced addiction, experienced incarceration and repeatedly asked for help that wasn't available.

Everything changed when she encountered women in recovery who saw potential in her before she could see it herself.

Those women gave her something treatment alone could not give her: belief.

Today Amanda helps shape national recovery and criminal justice reform efforts, ensuring other women have access to the opportunities she once struggled to find.

Her story proves that recovery often begins with one person saying, "I believe in you."

Everybody deserves somebody who believes in them.

About Brave Recovery: The Women Impacted

Twelve women. Twelve stories. One challenge to everything we think we know about addiction, recovery, prevention, grief and hope.

From mothers and advocates to researchers, journalists, counselors, authors and community leaders, each woman featured in Brave Recovery: The Women Impacted reveals a deeper truth: recovery is not simply about individual choices. It is about whether families, communities and systems create the conditions that allow people to heal.

These stories are not only about survival.

They are about what becomes possible when people are seen, supported and given the opportunity to reclaim their futures.
